Happy Earth Day!

So I'm a little late in posting this as I've been working on an essay all day, but I think this is an important topic to talk about!
Earth day is used to raise awareness about the current issues of our planet and also a reminder to appreciate it and treat it as best as we can.
I think it's becoming clearer and clearer that, unfortunately, we as a species are not making enough effort to protect our home! So here are a few small things that everyone can do to help planet Earth out! :)

Re-use.

So it's really tempting to be lazy and just buy whilst on the go, it's really not that much effort to carry a bottle of water or juice around with you. Invest in a nice long lasting flask or bottle to use and reuse everyday! It's the same with shopping bags, they don't call 'em bags for life for nothing! Find new uses for old items, such as making old milk cartons into flower pots or storage containers! Not only will this help save the planet, it'll help save some pennies too!

Be kind to animals

Walking through nature is brilliant, but we need to remember that we're walking into the habitat of many other creatures. Be careful when straying from footpaths not to accidentally damage animal homes and try to leave the area as it was. Make sure not to leave any rubbish or harmful substances behind. If you have a garden put out a bird feeder/bath for them to enjoy! In general be nice to animals and always treat them with respect.

Eat better.
Buy locally sourced meat and vegetables. Not only is this good for your local community by stopping big corporations from wiping out local shop owners, it is also good for the environment. A lot of food that can be bought in a supermarket has traveled thousands of miles to get here. The constant use of air-crafts to transport fruit, veg and meat over to the UK adds to the worlds air pollution and climate change. If you eat fish, make sure to buy fish that is caught in a sustainable, humane way and is in season, as our oceans are suffering from being over-fished!

This is just a short list, but these simple and small efforts will really help contribute to the preservation of our wonderful planet. It's important to remember that Earth is our home and without it we could not live. A lot of the damage done to the Earth is because of us humans, so it is our duty to protect it from further harm.

Bicks goes to London!

So as I mentioned last week, I went to see my bezzie Chelsea in LDN for a few days and I had a great time!
I travelled up on the Thursday and met Chels in Camden where she works. I was exhausted from the journey so we didn't spend too much time there, but we had a little wonder around the market and sat by the river for a rest. Then we hopped on the train to her place and I got a little tour before meeting her housemates.
We didn't have too much time to hang about because we were going to see the Cribs! We also popped into Weatherspoons on the way for a quick drink (or three).

Pretty drunk and sweaty by this point, but loving life!
The gig was crazy and great at the same time. It made me realise how much I miss going to see live music! (it's been a while) We had a fair amount to drink and ended up staying out pretty late. The journey home became quite an adventure and we weren't back at the house until 7am!

The view as I finally went to sleep!
I'm not used to that kind of lifestyle anymore so I pretty much crashed out for most of the day and we spent the rest of the afternoon munching and having a long ole catch up. We also went for a walk and Chels showed me around her bit of London.

The next day we were up, dressed and off to the natural history museum! I've been a couple of times before but there's always so much to see its hardly possible to get bored of it.

Chels and I had decided to have a picnic in Hyde Park but the weather wasn't the greatest so we ate on the way and stopped at the park for a cup of tea whilst admiring the view.

Unfortunately that was when my visit came to an end and I caught the late train home to Ktown where I arrived to find my boyfriend fast asleep in his work clothes haha! I had a brilliant time and I cant wait to go back. Hopefully in June, but perhaps sooner!

I pretty much go to Hogwarts..

So I popped over to uni the other day to drop off some library books and it was such a beautiful day that I couldn't resist having a walk around campus. That's when I remembered why I fell in love on the open day; it reminded me of Hogwarts! Okay, so we don't learn any magic there, but it's surrounded by wildlife, has a lake and even it's very own castle! Just by having a walk around it is easy to see a little resemblance to the wizard school.

I really enjoyed the fresh air and the walk, it was great to have a moment to myself and just appreciate the nature around me. I often forget how lucky I am to have such a beautiful environment in which to learn and I think this is something that I need to try to remind myself/take advantage of more often.
